ABOUT ILT

Providing an education through online technology gives ILT the freedom to have a diverse Lutheran faculty and student body from around the world, while keeping tuition rates and overhead costs low. Work towards your degree at your pace and still have the ability to work a full-time job and stay active in your own congregation.

OUR LEARNING STYLE

ILT uses Microsoft Teams to bring the classroom to your room. All you need is a computer, tablet, or a mobile phone with a reliable internet connection. Providing an education through online technology gives ILT the freedom of a diverse Lutheran faculty and student body from around the world while keeping tuition rates low since ILT does not have to support fully a brick and mortar facility. This allows you to keep your full-time job and minister within your congregation as you work towards completing your degree at your own pace.

Live Online
Virtual Classrooms

The Institute of Lutheran Theology brings theological education to you, where you are, using live web-based video conferencing. Faithful, fully-credentialed teachers lead you deeply into the Scriptures and the Christian tradition. You then take what you learn and immediately use it in your life, family and congregation. We bring real theological education to you, in a way that is accessible and affordable.

LIVE ONLINE VIRTUAL CLASSROOMS

ILT provides a real-time, online education. This allows students to learn in a live, interactive learning environment. The classes are recorded and students are able to go back and listen to a lecture over again, but this is not a substitute for the actual in-class experience. ILT uses Microsoft Teams to bring the classroom to you. All you need is a computer, tablet or a cell phone with reliable internet connection. Be sure you arrive to class on time!

LIBRARY RESOURCES

ILT offers thousands of online resources, including full books and periodicals, through Ebrary, an online library. ILT also mails physical books to its students. (ILT pays for shipping books to the students and the students cover the return shipping costs.) Each student has access to thousands of volumes to help them in the studies the coursework requires of them. (Access to these resources is open to pastors as well, please visit our library page if you are interested in learning more.)

ACCESSIBLE

ILT uses Microsoft Teams for its “classrooms.” The “campus” is a live-time video conferencing platform called Populi. By using these two live-time video conferencing platforms, ILT students are able to be a part of the ILT community without having to uproot their families and move to a physical campus. Our students also have the option of doing their internship or embedded ministry while taking classes. ILT has found that the students who have an internship during their academic studies can apply what they have learned in a controlled learning environment and gain deeper, lasting insight.

INTERACTIVE

Students at ILT participate in the classroom as active members. Not only can students see and hear the instructor, but can also see and hear each other. So, just as in a traditional classroom, the students are interacting with the instructor and with each other. In addition, the instructors or students can present PDF documents, Powerpoint presentations, videos or use a marker board.

OUR STUDENT’S FEEDBACK

While at ILT, I have also found a family. The students and staff genuinely care about one another, constantly lifting one another up in prayer and encouragement. Being a student at ILT has already strengthened me in my current ministries where I serve as the youth leader, an adult Bible study teacher, and as a long-term pastoral intern in my home congregation. The education I am receiving is theologically sound and wonderfully accessible through the video conferencing technology we utilize. I am most grateful for the semesters that I have completed at ILT thus far and look forward with great excitement to finishing my Masters of Divinity degree at the Institute of Lutheran Theology.
